Have you dreamed of making your own yarn using a spinning wheel? In this class you will learn the basics of spinning wheel operation, how to adjust tension, care for your wheel and most importantly make YARN! We will start by learning about wheels, their parts and how they work. Then we will learn to draft wool and control twist creating yarn singles. We will continue our spinning practice using different wools and different wool preparations. By the end of the day we will ply our singles, and you will have yarn to take home! If you have a spinning wheel in working condition, please bring it. Also, if you have any of the following, please bring 2-3 empty bobbins, spinning wheel oil, an orifice hook, a lazy kate, or a ball winder and several empty toilet paper tubes. The guild can provide a wheel if you do not have one, please let us know when you register. If your wheel has issues and you're not sure if it is suitable for class, please ask to have the teacher contact you when you register

Join Becky and friends for a morning of inkle loom weaving instruction. You’ll learn the basics of inkle weaving, warping the loom, choosing yarns, how to weave flat bands and loops, and more as interest and time allows. Students should bring their own looms, heddles and a shuttle. We will have extras of everything to share as needed.

It is a morning class, and we will plan to continue weaving in the spinning circle all afternoon so you can join us if you want to continue.

What to bring:
An inkle loom - Your inkle loom should have secure pegs and a tensioning device. We have a few extras to loan for the day so let us know if you need one.
Cotton yarns - the best yarns to begin with are strong, smooth, not too stretchy, and a comfortable size for your fingers to handle. You will use at least two or three contrasting colors. Mercerized cottons sizes 3/2 or 5/2 are good and easy to obtain.
Shuttle - a small flat shuttle with a beveled edge for weaving back and forth and pressing the yarn into place. In a pinch a 6” ruler will do.

We will bring: yarn to share and/or purchase, heddle string, a few extra shuttles, a handout, patterns, and lots of our weavings to use as samples of what you can do.

Learn how to crochet by making a small drawstring bag. You will learn how to make a magic ring, single crochet, single crochet increase, single crochet post stitch, double crochet and chain stitch.

Students should bring smiles and a creative attitude.

Material fee: $10 for hook, yarn and pattern for drawstring bag. (Payable to the instructor)

Build a 2-bobbin Lazy Kate.

In this workshop, you will build a very simple yet effective Lazy Kate. The bobbins stand up, secured on a dowel rod that drops down through a center hole.
All wood will be precut and pre-drilled, so the only skill you need to bring is the ability to hammer and glue.

Materials fee: $10 (paid to instructor).

Learn the fun and joy of Nuno felting while you create a small purse, suitable for a cell phone, quick trip to the store, or a night at the opera!
Nuno is the Japanese word for fabric or cloth. Nuno felting is a wet felting technique where loose wool fibers are bonded to a sheer fabric such as cotton or lightweight silk. This process creates a sturdy fabric that has a rippled or pebbled surface. The fabric can be light weight and drapey to heavy and very durable.
Another great aspect of this craft is that it takes minimal equipment to do and can take up as much or as little space as you have.
In this class we will learn about:
* Materials selection: What works and what doesn’t for the Nuno felting process
* Fabric, fiber and sources for each
* Materials requirements calculations
* Design ideas
* Shrinkage: It happens!
* Working area and equipment requirements
* Nuno felting process: laying the project out and rolling
* Lots of working hints to make this and your future Nuno Felting projects successful!
All materials for the Nuno Felted Purse project are included.

Dorset buttons can be made in all sizes and can be great for embellishing clothing, home decorations, holiday ornaments, and, oh, for actual buttons!

During class we will make a 2" traditional cartwheel button.

Mending and Making Do is a principle we are all familiar with now more than ever. I love mending things, because it is something we all can do. Saving clothes from a land fill and healing our hearts in the process. Mending is a meditative, slow process that improves with practice.

No experience needed but bring a knitted swatch (optional).

Materials fee: $5 (paid to the instructor)

We will learn how to do the Tunisian simple stitch, Tunisian knit stitch, and how to increase and decrease.

No previous experience needed.
Bring a Tunisian crochet hook and yarn. If you don't have either, they will be supplied with the materials fee.

Vendor Booth Space is available to guild members on a first come first served basis.
Set up will be Friday, Oct 18, from 6-7pm.
Booth size: Approximately 10’X8’
Chairs and a 1'X8' table provided as requested.
Public and Members will be able to shop from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Clean up and tear down begins at 4:30pm to 5:30pm.

The spinning circle is open to everyone at no charge.
Bring your wheel, spindle, your choice of spinning equipment, knitting, crochet and spend some time with others doing what you enjoy and visit the vendors while you are there, pick up a gift for the Holiday Party. Have a fun and relaxing day!
